Together At Last
An all-acoustic set recorded at Wilco’s Chicago studio, The Loft, *Together at Last* plays like a fireside tour through Tweedy’s decades-old songbook, from his day job (“Via Chicago,” “Ashes of American Flags,” “I’m Always in Love”) to side projects Loose Fur (“Laminated Cat”) and Golden Smog (“Lost Love”). Stripped-down, uncluttered, and achingly direct, *Together* highlights the strength not just of Tweedy’s writing—heartfelt, American, just a little bit arcane—but his voice, which trembles and sways like a tree standing up to wind.
Armed only with his acoustic guitar, Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy offers stripped-down versions of songs pulled from across his catalog, including songs originally cut with Loose Fur and Golden Smog.
That notion applies to Jeff Tweedy's first proper solo album, 2017's Together at Last, though in a rather unexpected way.
Every few years, Jeff Tweedy sets off on a solo acoustic tour to strip down some cuts from his work in Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Golden Smog and Loose Fur.
Now this is a lovely thing. Jeff Tweedy revisits his past catalogue, recording acoustic renditions of songs from Wilco, Loose Fur, and Golden Smog.
Review of Together At Last by Jeff Tweedy: Without the noise of a Wilco LP, Jeff Tweedy's new album is all heart, but our review dissects if that's enough.
Jeff Tweedy’s band Wilco have become synonymous with experimentalism and sonic adventures.
