For their sixth studio album, *Ritual*, In This Moment rip up their sonic rulebook to explore new velvet-draped hard-rock vistas. On \"Oh Lord,\" Maria Brink’s vocals drip with a hypnotic, bluesy drawl, while “Witching Hour” hews toward synth-spun gothic rock. They even get an assist from glam-metal icon Rob Halford of Judas Priest, who contributes ferocious guest vocals to the swinging vaudeville thrasher “Black Wedding.”
Ritual, the sixth studio long-player from the Hollywood-based goth-metal troupe, opens appropriately with an evocative soundscape filled with thunderclaps, ghostly incantations, air raid sirens, and tribal drumming, portending an explosive, arena-sized doom anthem.
At this point, IN THIS MOMENT is unstoppable. The band may yet have HALESTORM and LACUNA COIL to contend with if supremacy over this branch of hard rock is its goal.
