Following up his *Subject Matter* EP (released earlier this year), Internet favorite Homeboy Sandman returns with *Chimera*, again released via indie-rap stalwart Stones Throw Records. Set to loopy and laid-back production from Exile, Navie D, Paul White, J57, and Mr Familiar, he delivers his trademark left-field rhyme styles on six tracks here, each of them coming with a low-key, spacy vibe that\'s refreshingly different from just about anything else out there today. Sluggish tempos and minimalist beats support his deceptively drowsy wordplay, which is definitely more concerned with deep lyricism than catchy hooks or tear-da-club-up choruses. For cerebral headphones hip-hop, Sandman definitely delivers. Check out \"Cops Get Scared of Me,\" \"They Can\'t Hang (Word to the Mother),\" \"Look Out,\" and \"Illuminati.\"
