This collaboration between two esteemed German electronic musicians—Gundrun Gut (who’d been an early member of Einsturzende Neubauten) and Hans Joachim Irmler, one of the founders of the legendary Faust—took place at Faust’s Scheer studio and then went through extensive editing under Gut’s guiding hand back in Berlin. “Fruh” starts low-key and unassuming, with Irmler’s keyboards moving largely in slow motion with a few turns of the knobs moving the sounds as Gut’s percussion begins somewhat randomly before coalescing into a groove. “Mandarine” offers a steadying organ chord while the jam turns spacely. “Parfum” propels things into a potential standard rock groove.
