All The Way
The Olympia, WA ambient-drone duo distanced themselves further from the meditative thrum of their beginnings than ever before with this 2008 album. Remaining true to the practice of taking a single sound and repeating it to hypnotic effect, Growing offer a rhythmic, almost danceable playfulness to the songs, ending up with music that boils down to what it would be like if *Zeit*-era Tangerine Dream and *Broken Ear*-era Black Dice recorded together. Opener \"Green Flag\" sets the tone; these songs almost demand movement on the part of the listener, but once they go beyond the five minute mark, with a single, repeated motif shaded by slowly emerging sounds and a gathering of power, the effect is closer to a trance-induction session — a sort of New Age disco.
Firing on all cylinders, Growing continue to produce dynamic post-rock, here more prominently emphasizing stomping melody and kinetic rhythm.
