Setlist: The Very Best of George Jones (Live)
Any George Jones fan will agree that you just haven’t enjoyed his music to its fullest without experiencing one of his live shows. Thanks to Sony’s *Setlist* series, this excellently compiled collection of his best live moments has been sequenced and mixed to play like you’re in the audience. Jones starts off the with the song that also titled his 1986 biography, “Ragged But Right,” before introducing his backing band The Jones Boys. The following “Once You’ve Had the Best” is a weepy honky-tonker that allows Jones to stretch out and sing so you can really get a sense of the man’s golden, honeyed voice. You can almost taste the tears in those beers on the similarly heart-wrenching “Bartender’s Blues,” but it’s his seminal staple “She Thinks I Still Care” which deserves repeated plays with its mournful pedal steel notes and Jones leaning hard into the sentiment of the song’s lovelorn lyrics. Fans of Jones’ more upbeat numbers are sure to get those boot-heels tapping to “White Lightning.”
