200% GALCHER
Deep house doesn’t come much moodier than Galcher Lustwerk’s. Like the Queens-based producer\'s debut mixtape, 2013’s *100% Galcher*, *200% Galcher*’s minor-key synths, pitter-patter drum programming, and whispered vocals are seductive and enveloping. Galcher’s low-key rapping style perfectly suits his low-lit environments, tossing up vivid images that seem to glow in the darkness. On “Wristbands,” he riffs on nightclubs’ ubiquitous entrance bracelets; “See You When I See You” is a free-associative series of snapshots, breezy as the song’s wispy beat. Even at his most hypnotic, there’s more here than meets the ear: On “N\*\*\*\*s,” repetition slyly turns a loaded term into something more like an incantation. Instrumental versions of the tracks round out the album, though it’s hard to imagine an occasion when his dusky purr wouldn’t be welcome.
5 years after his infamous 100% Galcher mix. Less than a year later after his debut album for White Material. Galcher Lustwerk reinterprets the album format again with a digital-only 20 track sprawl. Funky, psychedelic, stream of consciousness hip-house tracks + included instrumentals for the DJs.
Five years after his breakthrough mixtape, the former upstart has become a veteran. On his second album in eight months, the rough edges give way to the assured pleasures of an expert in his zone.
