At 73, Gal Costa is blessed with vocal power that assumes almost supernatural proportions. The Tropicália legend’s 37th studio album is anchored on the purity and swing of her voice as she interprets a superb batch of compositions by such Brazilian stars as Gilberto Gil and Erasmo Carlos. Opener “Sublime” is a raucous disco anthem that transports us back to Costa’s ’70s and ’80s heyday, and “Puro Sangue (Libelo de Perdão)” channels the laidback funkiness of Earth, Wind & Fire. She sounds particularly radiant on the uplifting “Realmente Lindo,” but her duet with fellow diva Maria Bethânia on “Minha Mãe” is the definition of grace.
