These Things Happen Too
When G-Eazy says, “I really went crazy, goddamn it,” on the title track of his *These Things Happen Too* album, it’s hard to know whether he’s referring to his actual sanity or just puffing out his chest to celebrate the heights of music stardom he’s seen. The album offers support for either premise, the Bay Area MC dedicating plenty of time to the stresses he knows as a hip-hop star (“Wanna Be Myself,” “I, Me, Myself,” “Breakdown”) and also how good it is to be G-Eazy (“Instructions,” “Origami,” “Solar Eclipse”). The album is a robust 19 tracks, and within it are stories of the MC\'s relationship woes (“Everything Is Everything,” “No More,” “Bad Bad News!”), pop plays (“Breakdown,” “Faithful”), and a somewhat audacious remake of \'90s soft-rock mainstay “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak. Though the MC is frequently baring his soul, he’s tapped a wealth of disparate voices to back him up, including Lil Wayne, Demi Lovato, Matthew Shultz, and Anthony Hamilton, to name a few.
In 2014, Oakland rapper G-Eazy released These Things Happen following two mixtapes to serve as an official studio album debut.
