On his third studio album, G-Eazy raps about the demands of blowing up over the affecting boom-bap of \"Opportunity Cost.” It\'s surprisingly poignant, especially when the rapper\'s mom congratulates her son on his success via voicemail at the end. His beats are full of warm chords that tug at the heartstrings (\"Far Alone,\" \"Downtown Love\"), while his lyrics deal with finding redemption amid the hustle of the rap game.

Oakland rapper G-Eazy seems unafraid to wrestle with mature ideas and his work is well-crafted and considered. While one does get the feeling that there’s a better album somewhere inside of him, his new These Things Happen shows promise.
