Post-Hardcore Hardcore Punk
Noteable

The sixth installment of the band\'s long-running Zodiac series, *Year of the Dragon* is divided into two distinct halves. The “A-side” is an 18-minute piece that\'s strikingly intense, despite its leisurely expanse. The “B-side” features two covers of tracks from Toronto’s early punk scene, “I Wanna Be a Yank” by Cardboard Brains and “Disorder” by The Ugly, who remain active to this day. As usual, the band nail the hardcore aggression to perfection, having long been among the best punk bands of the 21st century. The title track, which had been performed in concert, tests their chops in other ways, starting with the restraint of the first minute and a half; it ends with a gorgeous burst of stereo electric guitars and the throat-killing vocals of Damien “Pink Eyes” Abraham. Guitar solos and other genre-busting elements drive the tune from point to point. The EP is largely meant to whet appetites for *Glass Boys*, the 2014 follow-up to the group\'s 2011 critically acclaimed full-length album *David Comes to Life*.
