Made In the Streets
Best known for his work with shout-rap pioneers Onyx, the Jamaica, Queens–based emcee Fredro Starr has been doing his thing since the late \'80s. He released six group albums and also got into acting, appearing in many hit movies (*Clockers*, *Save the Last Dance*) and TV shows like *Moesha* and *The Wire*. He dropped two solid (if overlooked) solo albums just after the millennium: *Firestarr* and *Don\'t Get Mad Get Money*. But in recent years he\'s been more involved in front of the camera than the microphone. On *Made in the Streets*, he overwhelmingly proves that he hasn\'t lost a step, hooking up with Brown Bag AllStar producer Audible Doctor, who serves up some stellar sample-heavy beats for Fredro\'s cinematic street tales. Though it\'ll likely fly way under the radar of mainstream listeners, this is a great effort that will immediately resonate with real fans of classic New York boom-bap. Don\'t miss \"Everyday Hell,\" \"The Truth,\" \"Suicide Kings,\" and \"What U Going Thru.\"
