Dee Gees / Hail Satin - Foo Fighters / Live
Just months after the dance-rock of 2021’s *Medicine at Midnight* (and the release of the acclaimed Bee Gees documentary *How Can You Mend a Broken Heart*), Foo Fighters assume new disco alter-egos here for a live in-studio performance of songs from the iconic pop outfit’s mid- to late-’70s, Miami-era peak. From “Night Fever” (partial namesake for 1977’s *Saturday Night Fever*) to “More Than a Woman” to Andy Gibb’s 1978 hit “Shadow Dancing” (featuring lead vocals from drummer Taylor Hawkins) to “Tragedy,” these are faithful renditions lovingly sung, frontman Dave Grohl clearly relishing the opportunity to mirror Barry Gibb’s storied falsetto in particular. Also included, on Side B, is a tight five-song set of *Medicine at Midnight* highlights: Taken together, it’s both a welcome addition to pop culture’s recent reappraisal of the Bee Gees’ work, as well as another look at the influence disco had on (some of) the Foos’ latest outing.
Dave Grohl’s six-piece finds common cause between gaudy disco-pop and willfully absurd arena rock on an album-length collection of Bee Gees covers and live-in-studio Medicine at Midnight cuts.
It's impossible to think of a better title than Hail Satin for Foo Fighters' Bee Gees tribute, a record the group released under the Dee Gees alias in time for Record Store Day 2021.
