FERXXO VOL X: Sagrado
A lot has changed for Feid in the five years since 2020’s *FERXXO (VOL 1: M.O.R)*, during which time he’s catapulted to international fame as one of the biggest reggaetoneros around. Going from Colombian club fave to global arena/stadium headliner was no small feat, yet the Medellín artist’s success can be easily understood off the strength of albums like *FERXXOCALIPSIS* and his collaborative *LOS 9 DE FERXXO Y SKY ROMPIENDO*, to say nothing of his features alongside fellow hitmakers Bad Bunny, KAROL G, and Rauw Alejandro. For *FERXXO (VOL X: Sagrado)*, Feid persists in his efforts to move reggaetón forward, yielding instantly gratifying results and potential future classics. He brings a wary sentimentality to “KELOIDE” and the comparatively brighter “I MIXX U,” unable to fully extract himself from the emotional clutches of an evidently problematic baddie. Unafraid to reconfigure the familiar, he nimbly transforms the prior single “SORRY 4 THAT MUCH”—presented here as a bonus track—into a slowed and reverb remix. Perreo pop moments like “DALLAX” with Ty Dolla $ign and the Wisin-featuring “hypnotixx” mingle with much more experimental expressions of the sound. In particular, “NOS DESCONOXIMOS” affixes it to an atmospheric house structure, something that resurfaces toward the end on the deceptively straightforward “Priority.” Still, as progressive as Feid’s style can get, he still shows love and knowledge for his chosen genre’s island origins, throwing it all the way back to its dancehall reggae beginnings on “NO ME DEJO XXIMBIAR.” Similarly, “ANDO XXIL” calls back to the overtly hip-hop presence once found on early DJ Playero mixtapes.
After going global, Feid is elevating the genre that put him on the map while showing that Colombia is still at the heart of his music.
