CVRBON VRMOR
Farruko’s faith-based pivot away from secular music surprised many fans of the artist behind “Krippy Kush” and “Pepas.” Yet as overtly Christian themes became unmistakable and prevalent in his music, his credibility as a trapero, reggaetonero, and Latin pop star has held strong. With fears of falling off assuaged by the high quality of his output, not the least of which being the statement piece *CVRBON VRMOR \[C\_DE: G\_D.O.N.\]*, he now expands that preceding seven-song effort into a 26-track album. The nearly 90-minute *CVRBON VRMOR* takes the reborn artist through a sweeping range of sounds, some more familiar in his catalog than others. His execution holds strong as he evangelizes over the drill warble of “JEZZUA,” the rootsy reggae of “DESCONEC\_ZION,” and the breezy Afrobeats of “VIBE.” He takes willful risks, as on the polished soft-rocker “CABLES CRUZADOS,” while maintaining long-standing ties with core genre figures like Darell on “TROTE” and Ñengo Flow on the Big Pun-nodding “MAZACOTE.” He serves the dance floor with cuts like the Austin Millz-assisted “TURBINA,” leaning into his poppier preferences for the uplifting “RANGOS” and the arena-ready Marshmello team-up “Esta Vida.”
