Beyond the 4th Door (Bonus Track Version)
From the first few notes opening Eternal Tapestry’s debut album, it’s evident that band members Dewey Mahood and Nick Bindeman share an affinity for Neu! and Popol Vuh. “Ancient Echoes” opens with a repetitive six-string trill before a bass mantra surfaces to usher in contrasting guitar textures and androgynous tremolo-affected vocals. Warm undulations of distorted analog keyboards segue into “Galactic Derelict” where meandering guitar lines mirror the avant-garde free-playing jazz guitar of Sonny Sharrock as skronky horns intertwine, tangle and then separate with a serpentine cool. “Reflections In a Mirage” follows, giving plenty of room for those genderless vocals to return — this time pumped through vintage effects to play like a vestige from Spacemen 3’s heyday.
