Big-selling post-punk revivalists from Birmingham, England return with a more theatrical second album, their sound sometimes approaching the arena-filling grandeur of U2.

Pity the poor Editors, but don't pity them too much: Born into a world where a strikingly similar band—that'd be Interpol—had just left its first footprints, these Brits had to battle accusations of badwagoneering that sometimes belted louder than their actual music. And yes, they sound a lot alike, but it seems…

Such are the visions and messages of Editors’ second album: a record as serious as cancer, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis and foot and mouth, all wrapped up in a terrorist warning note.

The release of their sophomore album sees Editors moving away from the compact, riff driven style that they've been accused of nicking from Interpol, in favour of a more expansive, stadium-like sound more akin to U2 (an increasingly worrying trend this year) and Coldplay.

They won't win any points for originality but the post-punk quartet are good enough for Alex Denney - and Edith Bowman.

Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One BeforeBottom line: Editors will never be as big in America as they are in England.

Editors - An End Has A Start review: Moving towards a more expansive and anthemic sound, Editors once more impress with a very good album of accessible indie-rock.
