The first rap superstars from the Bay Area, E-40 and Too $hort have been around forever now. (They debuted in 1990 and 1983, respectively.) Despite the dearth of successful middle-aged emcees, they\'ve both persevered for decades, continue to record new material on a regular basis, and still manage to score big hit singles every few years. Between the two of them, they\'ve put out close to 50 albums and have influenced countless other acts. On *History: Function & Mob Music*, they hit us with an extensive, 34-track effort rhyming mostly about the ladies (\"Lemme See You Twerk\"), hustling (\"Bout My Money\"), West Coast pride (\"Cali\"), and their status as undeniable legends (\"We Are Pioneers\"). The production is strictly futuristic funk, loaded with trunk-rattling bass bumps, freaky keys, and big handclap-heavy beats. We also get cameos from Ice Cube, B-Legit, Kurupt, Beeda Weeda, Turf Talk, Wiz Khalifa, and Dolla Will, among many others. Highlights include the beep banger \"West Coast Sh\*t,\" the party anthem \"Ballin\' Is Fun,\" and the space-age slow jam \"If We Ain\'t F\*ckin\'.\"
