Eight years after crushing dance charts with the 2013 Borgeous collab “Tsunami,” LA/Toronto brotherly duo DVBBS finally offer up a highly anticipated debut full-length. But their style has progressed considerably over the previous decade (they first showed up with 2012’s *Initio* EP), and *Sleep* shows all the contours of that evolution. Fittingly, as Christopher and Alexandre Van den Hoef\'s status has grown, so has their Rolodex, and *Sleep* packs a lot of guest vocalists, almost all of whom round off the edges of their sound. Fellow Canadian Powfu’s turn on the opener, “Losing Sleep,” makes for a laidback dance-pop entryway into these 15 wildly varied tracks. Norwegian vocalist Alida and Israeli producer GATTÜSO guide “Leave the World Behind” toward gentle dance-floor euphoria. Not surprisingly, Icona Pop brings some clubby heat and bounce to “Do It Anyway.” And YBN Nahmir adds some lascivious verses on the danceable hip-hop track “Victory.” DVBBS haven’t, of course, forgotten their roots: Tracks such as “Zombies,” “Oy” (featuring Seysey), and “State of Mushroom” show that their dark, chugging dance-floor grooves are still foundational to everything they do.
