Flo Jam
Since the early 2010s, London duo Dusky have been finding common ground between heads-down deep house and big-room club sounds. Their single “Flo Jam” was hailed as an instant classic upon its release in 2012, thanks to its moody FM bass riff and hypnotic vocal sample; it looked back to the ’90s while sounding absolutely of its moment. Ten years later, two leading figures of the UK underground put fresh spins on the tune. House revivalist Logic1000 leaves the song’s tonal elements untouched while sliding a slinky UK garage groove beneath, reimagining “Flo Jam” as a turn-of-the-millennium 2-step anthem, while breakbeat trio Denham Audio up the tempo to a rollicking 140 BPM, tipping their caps to old-school hardcore rave. “Flo Jam” already sounded timeless, which makes the retro vibes of these mixes all the more fitting.
