West Coast Hip Hop

Since the early \'90s, Oakland\'s Dru Down has been pimping on wax, unleashing comically offensive Mack-minded verses in his one-of-a-kind, cartoony flow that lies somewhere between E-40 and Humpty Hump. While he\'s never really blown up outside of Cali, he has worked with just about every West Coast artist you can think of, and has appeared on several landmark singles, including the Luniz \"I Got 5 On It\" and 2Pac\'s \"All About U.\" The appropriately titled *Chronicles of a Pimp* is his seventh album since \'93, and pretty much sticks to the script, with bouncy, rideable beatwork supporting charismatic wordplay about running the block, collecting his money, and keeping fools in check. It\'s a good listen, and perfect for hardcore fans of classic pimp rappers like Too $hort and Suga Free. Check out \"Hellooo\" with the Jacka, \"Old School,\" and \"Have You Ever Seen.\"
