The Mountain Has Fallen

Like Run the Jewels on *The Mountain Will Fall*, DJ Shadow’s collaborators are the seething heart and soul of the companion EP to his 2017 album. Danny Brown’s unhinged, high-pitched snarl is the perfect counterpoint to the lurching funfair beats of “Horror Show”; British film composer Steven Price brings widescreen drama to the cut-and-scratch brutalism of “Corridors.” Best of all is Nas, whose intricate rhymes and fiery delivery make the staccato guitar plucks of “Systematic” feel even more urgent: “Let’s occupy all streets,” indeed.

In a follow-up EP to last year’s The Mountain Will Fall, Shadow bucks expectations and finds inspiration in unlikely collabs with Nas and Danny Brown.
