From any vantage point they stood like sentinels, full of wisdom and mystery. I was convinced that they contained answers to all of my wonderings. In Twin Falls, the place of my birth, the mountains give way to a meeting place of sky, canyons, and desert. I lived in the “Magic Valley” of Idaho for one month, until I moved with my adoptive parents to my hometown of Boise, but the emptiness and stark beauty of Twin Falls captured me. This project came to me as a grouping of duos—perhaps because in birth, as in life, we are all partners in pairings that help define who we are. Steve Swallow, a fellow compatriot on my first tour through Switzerland, seemed a perfect fit for the sounds I imagined. On the road together we found humor (especially humor!), spirit, joy and stillness. With this collaboration I give my music back to the land and people who contributed to my being. Recently I returned home: the mountains are still full of mystery, but maybe in time they will reveal their secrets. Deidre Rodman, Brooklyn, 2006 Reviews: "A wonderful pianist and a delicate composer with a truly unique voice" Elvis Costello - Musik-Express "Powerfully distinctive compositions and uncomplicated yet sharply evocative playing" Terry Teachout -Washington Post Rodman edges out on her own, her playing fills with great reflection as if she's telling a story straight from the heart...
