This album was recorded with the assistance of an Australian Government Art Grant. It was recorded both in Brisbane and in New Zealand. The grant was utilised to fund travel to New Zealand's south island and to find inspiration there. The beautiful, mysterious and primitive atmosphere of New Zealand was powerful in shaping the colour and feel of the album. Water is a very important element in the songs, and many times there is a sense of being underwater, or emerging from underwater in these pieces. Pieces like Opening Your Eyes evoke the feeling of diving under and seeing the world below for the first time. The Dive is the reverse; travelling up from the dark depths towards the light. The Analog Skeleton of an Underwater Leviathan is a dark and foreboding discovery at the bottom of the waves, and Underwater Storm is just that, a dervish of movement and aquatic life far below.
