Trans-Love Energies
Named after a \'60s anti-establishment group from Detroit, *Trans-Love Energies* was mixed in Michigan by Death in Vegas’ frontman/producer/songwriter Richard Fearless after the tracks were recorded in Shoreditch, London. It opens with the aptly titled “Silver Time Machine,” picking up where 2004’s *Satan’s Circus* left off—with Fearless’ whispery vocals quietly crooning like Spiritualized’s Jason Pierce over minimal dronescapes and sublime hints of acoustic folk. The following “Black Hole” shifts gears as propulsive drums drive a tune that sounds like My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields lending his guitar wizardry to Primal Scream. Krautrock topographies are explored and conquered on “Your Loft My Acid” amid a trippy marriage between analog synths and repetitive beats over which Austra’s Katie Stelmanis lends her icy inflections. “Scissors” worships at the altar of Neu!, with a mellow motorik beat pulsing throughout. Ending is “Heroes,” a backmasked tune that plays like a psychedelic tribute to esoteric Stone Roses b-sides.
Pioneering efforts that fused electro, rock, psychedelia and soul saw Death In Vegas (AKA Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes) elevated to UK dance royalty in the ’90s.

The limitations that define Trans-Love Energies are just as readily apparent here as they are on any other Death in Vegas effort.
