Psychic

Pitchfork 9.0/10 Darkside, Nicolas Jaar’s partnership with guitarist Dave Harrington, follow their recent reimagination of Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories with a fascinating, endlessly explorable debut. Psychic is translucent and dense, electrified and organic, holding a form while constantly being prodded into new shapes.

The Line of Best Fit 8/10 Nicholas Jaar and Dave Harrington join forces to create a living, breathing musical biosphere.

The Skinny 4/5 The first full-length outing for Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington’s DARKSIDE project opens with Golden Arrow, 11 minutes of arrestingly beautiful ambient electronica, deftly embellished with Harrington’s muted guitar. Jaar’s astonishing ability to seamlessly meld techno, house and jazz within an uncanny, weightless soundworld remains in evidence; but Psychic manages to incorporate elements of prog- and post-rock, reflecting Harrington’s own influences, while still maintaining that characteristic sense of fluidity and cohesion.

Under The Radar 8.0/10 In their own incongruous way, Psychic's two creators do an admirable job of defining the sound of Darkside's debut LP. While Nicolas Jaar believed he was making an electronic record, Dave Harrington thought he was involved in a rock record.
