After releasing *She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She* earlier in 2024, Chelsea Wolfe follows it up with an EP remixing some of its songs. As she explains it, *Undone* is another step in the transformative process of these songs, which Wolfe originally recorded with producer Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio. “Initially, these songs were definitely more traditional rock ’n’ roll with maybe a little bit of trip-hop influence, but when we got to the studio with Dave, they became much more electronic just by the nature of his style, his studio, and the gear that he had,” Wolfe tells Apple Music. “So, the songs had already gone through a big transformation before we even got to the remix EP. And it was exciting for me to think about them transforming even more through remixes. I’ve never had official remixes done, and this felt like the perfect record for that.” The concept of transforming the songs also dovetailed nicely with the lyrical themes of *She Reaches Out*. “If you look at the lyrics of the original album, there’s a lot of words that start with ‘un-’ because the songs are more about undoing something than building something up,” she explains. “So, it fit perfectly because the remix process takes away a lot of elements before building the song back up.” As for the remixes themselves, Wolfe handpicked the artists involved—darkwave duo Boy Harsher, East Coast powerviolence squad Full of Hell, and fellow Sacramentans ††† (Crosses), among others—as well as the songs they remixed. “I think I was intuitively considering each person’s style and what I thought they would do well with.” Below, she discusses each track. **“Tunnel Lights \[††† (Crosses) remix\]”** “It was so nice after years of knowing each other to have a release like this with fellow Sacramentans Chino \[Moreno\] and Shaun \[Lopez\]. They really killed it with this remix. I love the instrumentation Shaun chose. I felt like ‘Tunnel Lights’ had a lot of space to play with, and I was overjoyed that some of that space was filled with Chino’s glorious voice. He was wondering if that was too much, but I was like, ‘No, please—sing more!’” **“House of Self-Undoing \[Boy Harsher remix\]”** “We feel that Boy Harsher—Jae and Gus—are kindred spirits of sorts. They make dark music that also feels light and joyful, and a similar dark-light balance threads itself through our music. ‘House of Self-Undoing’ is the most upbeat song on *She Reaches Out*, so I felt like it was appropriate to give that one to Boy Harsher. It’s amazing to hear how much new life they breathed into the song. They brought the essence of it into their world. And it’s so much fun hearing my voice in their context.” **“Whispers in the Echo Chamber \[Forest Swords remix\]”** “We’ve been fans of Forest Swords’ music for a long time. Forest Swords creates an unmistakable atmosphere—it’s the type of distinctive work where you hear just a fragment of their song and immediately recognize it. I wanted him to have a song that had a lot of vocals to play with. I knew something cool would happen in Forest Swords’ hands with those whisper vocals.” **“Dusk \[Ash Koosha remix\]”** “I’ve been in conversation with the brilliant Ash Koosha since around 2016 about doing something together. I’m really grateful he did this remix and that we finally have this piece together out in the world. I love how Ash took ‘Dusk’ to a darker, moodier, more exploratory space. I’ve had the Ash Koosha remix of Tanya Tagaq’s song ‘Earth Monster’ on personal playlists since its release.” **“Eyes Like Nightshade \[Full of Hell remix\]”** “Full of Hell stands out as one of the most authentically vicious and visionary bands going. Their music has this sonic intensity that often translates into something soothing for me. Full of Hell was on top of my list of dream remixers, and I really appreciate that they took the time to do so, making this their own. I asked them to do the weirdest song on the album and literally shouted with delight upon hearing this remix for the first time. This whole remix project was full of joy. It was so good to feel that in music again.” **“Everything Turns Blue \[Justin K Broadrick remix\]”** “I first met Justin when we played with Godflesh in Tokyo in 2012, and he was one of the warmest people I’d met. Like everyone on this remix EP, Justin is another distinctly incomparable and uncompromising artist. It was an honor to have such a legendary underground lifer reimagine one of my songs, and I love the beautiful direction he took it in.”
