Silver Wilkinson
British electronic musician Bibio (a.k.a. Stephen Wilkinson) returns with his seventh LP, *Silver Wilkinson*. The album is a stylistic nod to an earlier and more guitar-focused era of Bibio’s sound, particularly compared to the electronic orientation of his preceding album, *Mind Bokeh*. Bibio brings that analog finesse back and melts it beautifully with his signature woodsy guitars. *Silver Wilkinson* warbles its way through states of expertly-constructed pop (“À tout à l\'heure” and “You”) and hazy, nostalgic ambiance (“Dye the Water Green,” “You Won’t Remember”). *Silver Wilkinson* is richly atmospheric, easy to get lost in, and highly enjoyable front to back.
Silver Wilkinson junks the plasticine electro-pop that marred Mind Bokeh and returns to the warm splendor of 2009’s Ambivalence Avenue, the record which began Stephen Wilkinson's second, more rewarding phase as Bibio, investigating what it meant to be a producer with vision.
After overextending on Mind Bokeh, Bibio returns to his old stuff with a new folk-y album of old-sounding music.
Bibio broke big with dazzlingly eclectic albums like Ambivalence Avenue and Mind Bokeh, which showed Stephen Wilkinson could bring a sharper edge and more dimensions to his music.
On his seventh LP under the Bibio guise, the English producer's experimental leanings take on a distinctly naturalistic focus, veering away from the kaleidoscopic blur of 2011's Mind Bokeh to create a slow-burning sonic collection.
