Apple Music Home Session: BENEE
“These are my favorites of my songs to perform in acoustic format,” BENEE says of her Apple Music Home Session. Recorded not *quite* at home, but rather on the road in Sydney, her session houses “Supalonely”—the Gus Dapperton-featuring track from her 2020 debut *Hey u x*, on which the New Zealand alt-pop talent explores crushing post-breakup loneliness—and 2022’s “Marry Myself,” which celebrates the ability to just be by yourself, taken from EP *Lychee*. It’s a declaration of self-assuredness, something that perhaps hasn’t been easy to reach. “I’ve lost quite a lot of confidence over the last year,” admits BENEE. “There was a period where I felt like people were starting to give up on me. I’ve had a lot of reflecting time and have really figured out why I love this job so much. I want to be there for people who are really going through it. It’s the best thing in the world when you hear a song and you can relate to lyrics and they help you.” Here, BENEE also takes on “Fly Me to the Moon,” a song she adores, “especially when it’s stripped back.” But it might also hint at that journey to falling back in love with her craft. “Fill my heart with song and let me sing forevermore,” she pleads on her pared-back take on the timeless Sinatra hit.
