Get Up!

With *Get Up!*, Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite stick to the tried-and-true, baring their souls over bluesy instrumentation, like on album opener “Don’t Look Twice” with its lonesome, wailing harmonica. They make room for heavy rockin’, too: ”I Don’t Believe a Word You Say” stomps hard with big riffs; “Blood Side Out” has a ramshackle swagger that recalls smoky, dimly lit bars. The sprawling, slow-burning title track simmers and smokes with hot harp and dirty guitar.
