Mariss Jansons: His Last Concert - Live at Carnegie Hall - Strauss / Brahms (Live)

Carnegie Hall was the venue, just three weeks before Mariss Jansons’ death in November 2019 at age 76. And this, billed as “His Last Concert,” is a poignant memento of a great conductor. The music itself is tinged with melancholy too. The *4 Symphonic Interludes* from his autobiographical opera, *Intermezzo*, despite their moments of rambunctious good spirits, are moving and deeply personal, especially in a performance as touching as this. And Brahms’ *Symphony No. 4*, with its note of tragedy, takes on extra gravity given the circumstances of this performance. The slow movement is the highlight, poised and exquisitely played by this great orchestra.
