Apple Music Home Session: Ayra Starr

Ayra Starr leads her Apple Music Home Session with an arresting cover version of Canadian singer Jessie Reyez’s “Great One,” recorded at Starr’s home in Lagos, Nigeria. “It’s a classic,” the singer-songwriter tells Apple Music. “I made a cover of this song back when it dropped \[in 2017\], even before I released my EP \[*Ayra Starr* in 2021\], and people loved it! I wanted to do it again here as I’m obsessed with Jessie—and I just love how she expresses herself in her music.” Also packaged in this acoustic session is a new version of Ayra’s Afropop hit “Rush.” Originally released in 2022, the single is a sweet ode to the redemptive power of positive energy—with subtle additions lending a heartfelt spin to one of the singer’s biggest releases to date. “I’ve stripped the song right down,” she says. “And now it has a whole lot more emotion.”
