Industrial Metal
The Painted Army, the self-released debut album by Tristan Shone's industrial music project Author & Punisher, is largely different from his later work under the alias. The cutting-edge self-made electro-mechanical machines that characterize his recent work are absent; instead, conventional guitar, synthesizer and live drums (by William Driskill, his only credit on an Author & Punisher release) are utilized. Musically, the album recalls early Tool, as well as Neurosis and Godflesh with a dash of melodic grunge. Shone's emotional yet charged vocals carry the songs in many places; they stand in a place between Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Maynard James Keenan. -taken from RYM zirtapot57
