Campfire Songs
Animal Collective’s 2003 album Campfire Songs. An idea originally thought up by Avey Tare and Panda Bear while in college, Campfire Songs is not a record of songs sung around a campfire but a record that hints at songs emerging from the fire itself: “We wanted to give the music the feeling and atmosphere of the outdoors and the warmth of a fire, so people could bring it indoors.”
Originally recorded in 2001 and released in 2003 under the name Campfire Songs, this eponymously titled album serves as a record of the early experiments in melodic atmospherics by members of what would eventually become the Animal Collective (featuring Panda Bear, Avey Tare, and Deakin).
The eight LPs Animal Collective released in the past decade display a wider, wilder range of styles than most mainstream acts endeavor to explore.
