The Detroit-born rapper built her buzz at the tail end of the blog era, an upstart from the digital underground who felt primed for the pop-rap mainstream. Then she leaked her own major-label debut (2013’s *Dirty Gold*) and, not long after, disappeared from the industry entirely. More than five years after her last release, *Girl With the Gun* is Haze at her most Zen, though no less tough: “Everything that tried to kill me/Load my gun and come back stronger!” she spits on the title track. Vibey R&B melodies balance out alpha-girl raps, done best on “Bullet,” a flirty funk groove that gives Doja Cat a run for her money.
