The album is expertly paced between thrashed-out ragers like the heavy-riffing \"Where Is Your God?,\" more dynamic explorations such as \"Guardians of Asgaard\"—powered by guest vocals from Entombed\'s Lars Göran Petrov—and the cello-driven evil of \"Live for the Kill.\" The underlying anguish of a bloodied battlefield is ever-present throughout, giving the album a dark emotional subtext.
Their album covers overflow with swords, shields, and he-men, and they've been known to don drinking horns and offer a toast to live crowds, but the most "viking" aspect of these Swedish metalers could be their strong, simple, and often romantic melodies.
