Body Music
Slick, sugary sweet, and fizzing with invention, London synth-pop girl/boy duo Aluna Francis and George Reid’s debut album offers an emotive take on dancefloor-friendly pop. Alive with woozy, sombre electro (the evocative “Outlines” and “Bad Idea”), alt reworkings of ‘90s R&B (“You Know You Like It”, “Just a Touch”), and spacey futuristic pop (“Bad Idea”), the pair’s DIY roots add a bassline of authenticity. Their winning formula comes fully realized on the buttery retro digitalism of “Attracting Flies”.
The UK duo of vocalist Aluna Francis and producer George Reid make future-pop songs that mix their love of old Timbaland and Neptunes-produced hits with an indie-leaning sensibility. Their full-length debut shares songs with their well-received EP and further streamlines their sound.
Whilst falling a little way short of perfection, AlunaGeorge's debut should ensure the pairing will have no issues sprinting to the upper echelons of pop aristocracy.
