Truth

*Truth* is Alexis Ffrench’s finest album to date, a beautifully written, scored, and performed collection of pieces born of the pianist’s devastation and feelings of helplessness following the death of George Floyd. Each track is a finely cut jewel, but Ffrench is clearly at his best when channeling his love of modern hymns and folk song. The beautiful “Guiding Light” already sounds like a modern classic, as does “Broken Sunsets,” performed and recorded remotely with a 70-piece orchestra. Leona Lewis guests on the power ballad “One Look,” which proves Ffrench’s effortless ability to cross musical boundaries. Everything is so vividly and atmospherically recorded, too, which adds another layer of richness to this exquisite music.
