It's Magic
Abbey Lincoln’s determination to gain deserved recognition as a true jazz singer was first displayed on Riverside with all-star instrumental support on That’s Him!. This was here second stride in this direction, less overtly a “blowing” album, but much more carefully constructed. It is equally notable as a demonstration of the respect and affection felt for Abbey by her fellow artists. And just how notable that actually is becomes apparent when you examine the full honor-roll roster of accompanists here: starting with Benny Golson (who comes first because he also provided five firm arrangements), it continues alphabetically with Paul Chambers, Kenny Dorham, Art Farmer, Curtis Fuller, Philly Joe Jones, Sam Jones, Wynton Kelly, Jerome Richardson, and Sahib Shihab. Recorded with Kenny Dorham, Art Farmer, Curtis Fuller, Benny Golson, Jerome Richardson, Sahib Shihab, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, Sam Jones, Philly Joe Jones.
