Homesick
A Day to Remember\'s hearty brew of pop-punk, emo, and metalcore coalesces into a juggernaut that the band\'s fans have dubbed \"pop mosh\" — a fitting title for something equally catchy and aggressive. \"The Downfall of Us All\" rips the album open with a testosterone-heavy choir of young men chanting and clapping before Jeremy McKinnon comes in, singing with larynx shredding anger while machine-gun drums battle alongside distorted guitars. Then the tune suddenly switches gears and morphs into a much less intimidating melodic pop song with a driving beat, all the while managing to sound like the same band. The curiously titled \"I\'m Made Of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made Of?\" utilizes big, flat drums that somehow sound like a fist punching somebody\'s face, but this is contrasted nicely with searing melodies and triumphant lyrics — half of which are sung by Mike Hranica of the Devil Wears Prada. *Homesick* boasts two more guest singers: the Acacia Strain\'s Vincent Bennett on the relentlessly pummeling \"Welcome to the Family\" and Sierra Kusterback from VersaEmerge on \"If It Means A Lot To You,\" an acoustic ballad that stands out like a flower growing from concrete.
Ocala, FL-based post-hardcore outfit A Day to Remember's third full-length offering opens with the blistering "The Downfall of Us All," a hugely melodic slice of metal-infused punk-pop bliss that's sure to land a second life in countless montages on MTV reality shows and 30-second cola commercials.
