Never afraid to explore the darkened corners and razor’s edges of hip-hop, Ruby da Cherry and $crim have to work pretty hard to shock their emboldened and devoted audience. Even still, collaborating with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and Korn co-founder James “Munky” Shaffer as they do on *LIVE FAST DIE WHENEVER* may do the trick. Songs like “Individuality Was So Last Year” and “Killing 2 Birds With 22 Stones” find the aggro-rap duo embracing hardcore and heavy metal aesthetics more so than usual, their voices roaring and snarling through ramped-up distortion levels. “nothingleftnothingleft” all but abandons rap conventions altogether as Barker’s frenetic beat drives the younger pair into a frenzy.
